MEANING OF "EL GRITO" On September 16th, 1810 in the town of Delores, Mexico the shout (el grito) for Independence began when the bell was tolled in the church square by Miguel Hidalgo. El Grito 5k starts with the ringing of the bell to represent freedom and liberty. THE RACE The non-profit race is a community focused family event celebrating culture and healthy lifestyles through running. The start and finish are located at The Buckhorn Exchange on 10th and Osage in Denver, Colorado. The course is USATF certified and known for the best post race fiesta! Beer, burritos, music, and prizes. Unique El Grito 5k awards for top 3 in each age group (5 year groups). BENEFICIARIES El Grito seeks to inspire young athletes to pursue college education and provides scholarships for graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated involvement in their community, track and cross-country running.
